When someone fears they have broken a bone, they will usually go to an x-ray lab in order to see if they did break it or not. X-ray laboratories specialize in using x-rays to peer into the human body in an noninvasive manner. Many doctors send patients to x-ray labs because they themselves do not have x-ray machines in their offices. Most hospitals have x-ray labs on the premises but many x-ray labs are independent. Some x-ray labs also have other kinds of machines capable of peering into the human body in a noninvasive manner such as magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines or computed axial tomography scanners (CAT scanners or CT scanners). Some kinds of x-ray labs specialize in animal x-rays. Some kinds of x-ray labs are not involved in medicine at all. Some x-ray labs use x-ray telescopes to peer into space while others use x-rays for industrial purposes.
