Consider what type hearing aid your family doctor or audiologist recommends, and target your search accordingly, whether you need behind-the-ear, in-the-ear, in-the-canal, or completely-in-the-canal hearing aids worn by people of all ages. You may even require a body hearing aid for extreme cases of hearing loss. Ask each dealer or wholesale company which types of hearing aids they sell, such as digital, open-fit, or wireless. For optimum patient care, it’s important to select the best wholesale company or dealer of hearing aids, so if you are a doctor’s office in need of audiology hearing aids for mild to extreme hearing loss, be sure to check each company out thoroughly. Go online to learn all you can about hearing aids and what they involve, such as electroacoustic outputs of frequency-modulated (FM) systems, cochlear implants, receivers, bone anchored implants, digital devices, telecoils, and accessory items like amplifiers, and historical hearing aids such as trumpets and horns. Call each hearing aid rep and set up a visit to check out the latest in audiology equipment and supplies. Find out manufacturer and distributor information, safety background, company reputation prices, and delivery and set-up charges. Before choosing a hearing aid wholesaler, inquire whether the company is part of a local, national or international entity. Does the company have a website you can browse for further information? Find out if your health insurance company covers the costs of the products you are considering. Ask about any discount prices on hearing aids and accessory items to get a lower rate for your hospital, clinic, or medical center. Many times, wholesalers will offer a bulk discount on large quantity orders.

Hearing aid audiology is the study and treatment of hearing impairment, using devices called hearing aids to improve individual's hearing. This branch of medical science is usually practiced by Ear, Nose & Throat (ENT) specialists. Audiologists can work with ENT's or alone, and also study and treat people with hearing loss. Using a variety of testing, audiology determines whether someone can hear within the normal range, and if not, which portions of hearing, high, middle, or low frequencies, are affected. Early hearing aids consisted of funnel-like amplification cones called “ear trumpets” or “ear horns.” Today the most common hearing aid is a small electronic device that fits into the user's ear.
